It seems the Ministry of Education is gearing up to undermine and eventually do away with Bill 82 which sets the standard for the education of our children. It states that it is the responsibility of school boards to meet the needs of students in the classroom. For quite a few years now this bill has been helping students to be accommodated and supported within the regular classroom, working with their peers as much as possible.
Now the Ministry is putting out new documents which sound wonderful in theory... good philosophical pieces... of which I will say more once I have done my homework. But these are suggesting that as long as we keep class sizes smaller, that ANY classroom teacher can be TAUGHT to handle ANY group of say 12 to 15 students and teach them all in ways that meet their needs, without having to pay Educational Assistants to work within the normal class! Kids are being hurt, and are regressing... and young teachers are burning out faster than ever before.
Please watch this site for further information! I will be doing some research and consulting and will make recommendations that those of you who wish to join the fight can do. This is not a Timmins problem or even a Northern Ontario problem this is Province Wide. ALL of our children are being put at risk by this trend. We must act efficiently!
If you have any knowledge or suggestions, as a concerned mother, grandmother and citizen, I welcome them.
